Chris Schweizer’s single “Deep Space” drops July 12 on Outer Space Oasis.

The track is built around a taut, rolling groove that stacks layers of synths and percussion with disciplined patience. A clipped vocal stab appears only twice across the whole running time, both times right before a drop, where it lands with an emphatic, tension-snapping effect.

This is the third release from the Outer Space Oasis catalog to cross our desk this run. We have to admit it’s the strongest of the three, and yet we keep finding ourselves unconvinced that somewhere in this operation there’s a guy in a room, meaning something by it all. Genuinely split here; the record earns real coverage on its own merits, but we can’t quite shake the feeling that we’re watching a well-executed simulation. We’re not calling it one way or the other.
